About Me

My name is Mikel Farley. I'm a 21 year old US college student. I'm interested in Technology, Security, Development environments, Electronics, MicroProcessors, Portable Energy Sources, and 3D Printing. I'm a technician class licensed Ham Radio operator, callsign (pending).

I believe learning is a core principle of creating a better world for everyone. I pursue learning as the main goal of every day, and at this stage in my life a college education is the best way to do that. I've learned a great many things over the last few years, I've started many projects (finished slightly fewer), and had many amazing experiences that I continue to learn from.

Finances

I think we can all agree that college is expensive, and right now I am unable to take out enough loans and get enough scholarships to pay for it. That's why I've reached out to you to help me. If I can get enough money to pay for my classes and living expenses, I want to donate my time outside of classes to contributing to open-source projects and tutorials/blog posts on popular and useful software.

School

I'm attending school at Oregon State University, studying Electronic Engineering. I'll be providing more information as classes progress.

Rewards for contributors

I'm not really sure what to do for contributors yet, please let me know if you have any suggestions. I'm thinking a weekly blog post during school to keep contributors up to date with how classes are progressing, and how the projects I'm working on are going if anyone is interested. I'd also like to offer some small electronics projects to contributors at certain levels, I'm not really sure what people would be interested in, let me know.

FAQ

What if you get more than you need?

I've watched a lot of GoFundMe campaigns and Kickstarter projects get WAY more money than they asked for and it always causes problems. If I ever get into that situation I'm open to suggestions, but my current plan is to talk to my financial aide representatives about any students they've seen that are struggling to pay for school and contribute anything over my own educational expenses towards their's. If the school isn't open to facilitating this then I'm open to suggestions or I might look for a trustworthy scholarship fund to donate to.

Why are the donations in Euros?

The donations are in euros because this website is a libre-opensource project that's based and hosted in France. I've chosen this platform to support Libre Open-Source Projects, and because they don't take a large cut out of your donations like other platforms like Patreon.

Can I give you a One-Time Donation?
