Cobbler of free software, sub-amateur host of web applications for friends and family
Most of my free time goes into learning how to computer better. The end results usually manifest as open source code licensed under the GNU General Public License. I can also use the computer things I learn better to pretend to be a capable (but admittedly novice) sysadmin. In that regard, I provide web hosting, managed web application services, and cloud storage (NextCloud) for close friends and family.
I tend to spend more time “doing research”, pondering, and breaking things than actually launching usable projects. This allows me to feel accomplished for about 2 minutes out of every labor-hour. The remaining 58 labor-minutes are filled with frustration.
If, for some reason, you find these personal projects useful, have extra money to throw away, or feel like saying thank you for some reason, you've come to the right place. I invite you to THROW YOUR MONEY AWAY in my direction.
My hope is that the value produced for others outweighs the constant amount of annoyance inflicted on myself and others as a primary byproduct (that's an apology, I think?). Regardless of the amount of value others may find, I can say with certainty that the amount of time, effort, screaming, and tears put into these minimally-useful personal projects is… concerning. That's where your donations come into the picture. As we all know, time is money, and YOUR MONEY can tilt the reward/pain balance in MY favor, and potentially yours too.
While, yes, the actually-existing services of Seadome Systems are invite-only to people I know personally, I do also sometimes write code, most of which I release to the public as free software licensed under the GNU General Public License. Most of that lives in a small handful of Git repositories:
- https://github.com/montchr/dotfield — monorepo of Nix/NixOS/home-manager configurations, evolving out of some copy-pasta dotfiles since 2014
- https://git.sr.ht/~montchr/ceamx — my Emacs configuration
- https://git.sr.ht/~montchr/apparat — Nix library functions used in other projects
- https://github.com/montchr/nix-base16-schemes — pure-Nix versions of the base16 color schemes
